About Cyprus

The Republic of Cyprus is an island country situated in the Eastern Mediterranean. It is surrounded by Turkey, Syria, Lebanon, Egypt, Israel and Palestinian, and Greece. Historically Cyprus was occupied and ruled by many major powers like Egyptians, Persians, the Roman Empire, and the French.

During the UK’s administration around the 19th century, Cyprus saw major activity by Turkish as 18% of the population was made by Turkish Cypriot. But after nationalist violence in the 1950s, Cyprus was granted independence in 1960. However, the territorial dispute between Greek Cypriots and Turkish Cypriots continued for decades.

Cyprus has an advanced high economy with a high-income rate. They are members of the EU and the Eurozone. It is also a major tourist destination.
